Why the Snowman Melts is a beautiful book. It is really helpful in working with students who have lost love ones through death or divorce. The style is different in that it provides activities for the counselor or teacher. As a counselor it could be used individually or with a group of students. The student's skills are expanded as they learn and apply the vocabulary words provided. I recommend this book to be in every elementary and middle school library.Product details

Why the Snowman Melts Diane Harvey Amy Paulson 9780615367903 Books Reviews
I enjoyed reading this to and with my granddaughter! I think it will be helpful to children experiencing any type of loss.
I really like this book. I read it to my little cousin and he loved it. He told me he wanted to read it again but the next time he wants to read it to me. This is a great children's book
This book is well written. MY FINGERS ARE TYPELESS. excellent book for parents and children to read. This book can give parents or adults ideas on how to explain death to minors and it can offer an easier way for kids/minors a way to understand death. Very well written.
A well written book that teaches children of all ages about the inevitability of change. Diane Harvey, the author, delivers insights that are timeless. The book also includes discussion questions that provide an avenue for children and adults to express their feelings and thoughts about change. "Why the Snowman Melts" is more than a great book, it's also a great way to strengthen your relationship with people-children you love.
I have two daughters, and both read the story (several times) and loved it!!!
My daughters are ages 6, & 7, and had no problems reading/comprehending the story. In fact my oldest daughter Christen, chose to write about the story in a book report, where she also complimented the author!
I also love that the author introduces the young readers to "new" words throughout the story which she bolds and provides a brief definition at the bottom of each page. The illustrations in the book are very colorful, and appealing to kids.
This book is a must have for the entire family because it introduces kids to change and assists parents in teaching kids how we can embrace the many uncertainies in life. The family is moved from Miami to Chicago because the Dad gets a new job, so with that comes the uncertainity of a new environment (cold vs. warm weather), leaving old friends, making new friends, etc.
In the story we learn that they are settled in a new school with new friends! They are then excited that it will snow which is new and exciting since they'd never seen snow before being that they had lived in Miami. Once it snows, they create a new friend, Eddie the Snowman... It's a great story, and very well written, so enjoy!
